SHIAPARELLI će se spusti 19.-og u blizini kratera ENDEAVOUR, gdje se nalazi vozilo OPPORTUNITY. Duža stranica elipse je duga 100 km. Kraj elipse se nalazi samo nekoliko km od sjeverne sjeverozapadne strane Endeavoura. Udaljenost centra elipse i najbližega ruba kratera je cca 45 km. Putanja Schiaparellija ide od zapada prema istoku. Ako se spusti u područje centra elipse OPPY ga neće moći vidjeti. Samo u slučaju da se spusti na istočnoj strani elipse mogao bi biti uhvaćen kamerom OPPYa. 
Na donjoj fotografiji je ucrtan "box" , koji mora obuhvatiti kamera OPPORTNITY, za vrijeme spuštanja Schiaparellija.

NASA-in MROrbiter je napravio donjsnimak ENDEAVOURa, s okolicom. Na njoj je ESA ucrtala elipsu i položaj Shiaparellija za vrijeme spuštanja. U donjem desnom uglu je krater ENDEAVOUR!
Samo da napomenem: Cijeli projekat ExoMars 2016 misije je zajednički projekt ESA i RusiaCosmos. Projekt će se nastavit sa lansirajem vozila na Mars 2020.

OPPORTUNITY  je snimio 14 fotografija (do sada pristiglo!) dijela neba na kojem bi se mogao pojaviti SCHIAPARELLI.
U razmaku 3 minute i 44 sekundi bilježim  2 promjene: jedan u donjem lijevom kutu i jedan u gornjem desnom kutu.
Kao laik i slobodno misleći čovjek ( :) ) gornju promjenu pripisujem orbiteru, a donji landeru-Schipaparelli.
Potoji i mišljenje većega znalca (UMSF-fredk) koji promjene  pripisuje "cosmiic ray". Sačekajmo  službeno objašnjenje!

Javljaju iz ESA-e da nije sve išlo kao što je bilo planirano.
Modul Schiaparelli je bio odbačen prije nego što je bilo planirano, pa tako vjerojatno i paljenje motora za "kočenje" modula. Sumnja se da nije došlo baš do mekog spuštanja.
Podaci pristigli s 2 lokacije (eksperimentalni teleskopski poligon u Indiji i ESA Mars Express) se trenutno uspoređuju. Za konačne i potpune  procjene o tome šta se odista desilo, se čeka na  podatke s TG Orbitera.

The fate of the ExoMars lander, Schiaparelli, remains uncertain. European Space Agency mission controllers had been optimistic on Wednesday night that a definitive answer would be known by Thursday morning’s news briefing (watch it here). However, although some more details have been made public about the lander’s descent, it is not yet clear whether it hit the martian surface at a speed it could not survive.
The entry, descent, and landing sequence was fully automated and should have consisted of clear phases. As it reached the atmosphere of Mars, the lander would slow down with atmospheric drag and heat up through friction, before opening a parachute, later jettisoning its heat shield, jettisoning the back half of the protective aeroshell along with the parachute, and firing thrusters shortly in advance of touchdown. The parachute and aeroshell should have been released at 1.2 kilometers from the surface, followed one second later by the activation of the thrusters bringing the lander down to around two meters before a final drop to the surface. The data suggest that the heatshield performed well. The parachute phase happened, and the thrusters fired at least briefly, but possibly not at the intended time or altitude.

Investigations are continuing into exactly what happened and at what stage of the flight. ESA has emphasized the experimental nature of the lander, and the benefits of the data already collected. The detailed monitoring of the descent was a lesson learned from the loss of the UK’s Beagle 2 lander in 2003, whose fate was unknown until 2015. All of the data transmitted by Schiaparelli, also known as the entry, descent and landing demonstrator module (EDM), during descent has been recovered, and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter may add some more information about its fate, although MRO has not been in contact with the lander. 
Andrea Accomazzo, ESA’s head of solar and planetary missions said: “The EDM entered the atmosphere of Mars and most important of all we have collected all the engineering information from this phase. This we have successfully done with the Trace Gas Orbiter.
“We have data from all the hardware of the EDM. This is fundamental for a test. We can also see the hardware has provided meaningful data. Now we need to analyse why, when we put together this data in the martian environment, the spacecraft did not behave exactly as we expected. It will take more time to have a global picture of the descent.”
Don McCoy, ExoMars project manager, said that the AMELIA (Atmospheric Mars Entry and Landing Investigation and Analysis) instrument team believed most of their data were collected. AMELIA co-principal investigator Stephen Lewis tweeted that 600MB of Schiaparelli data had been received and that 99% of the test was complete.

The Schiaparelli Entry, descent and landing Demonstrator Module (EDM) carried a number of sensors to measure characteristics of the atmosphere during atmospheric entry and descent. The AMELIA (Atmospheric Mars Entry and Landing Investigation and Analysis) programme, to be carried out by the Schiaparelli science team, will use the engineering data from these sensors to reconstruct the module's trajectory and determine atmospheric conditions, such as density and wind, from a high altitude to the surface. These measurements are key to improving models of the Martian atmosphere. In this illustration, a temperature profile of the Martian atmosphere obtained by the NASA Mars Pathfinder probe is shown.
ESA Director General Jan Wörner again emphasized the value of the information gained by the lander, and the success of the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO).
TGO continues to perform well following its orbit insertion manoeuvre on Wednesday. It will have a challenging aerobraking phase next year to change its orbit. In addition to conducting science around Mars, TGO will serve as a relay station for ExoMars 2020.

Comparison of Schiaparelli and Opportunity landing locations

Schiaparelli was predicted to land within an ellipse (green) 100 kilometers long by 15 kilometers wide. The lander crashed very close to the center of the ellipse, within the black rectangle. The ellipse happened to overlap the location of the Mars Exploration Rover opportunity landing site, though the rover's current location on the rim of Endeavour crater is well outside the ellipse, 54 kilometers to the east-southeast. The yellow line is the path of Opportunity's traverse.

Signs of Schiaparelli Test Lander Seen From Orbit

This comparison of before-and-after images shows two spots that likely appeared in connection with the Oct. 19, 2016, Mars arrival of the European Space Agency's Schiaparelli test lander.
The images were taken by the Context Camera (CTX) on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on May 29, 2016, and Oct. 20, 2016.
The area indicated with a black outline is enlarged at right. The bright spot near the lower edge of the enlargement is interpreted as likely to be the lander's parachute, which was deployed and then released during the descent through the Martian atmosphere. The larger dark spot near the upper edge of the enlargement was likely formed by the Schiaparelli lander. The spot is elliptical, about 50 by 130 feet (15 by 40 meters) in size, and is probably too large to have been made by the impact of the heat shield. The location information confirmed by this image will aid imaging the site with the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera, providing more details to use in interpretation.
The main image covers an area about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) wide, at about 2 degrees south latitude, 354 degrees east longitude, in the Meridiani Planum region of Mars. The scale bars are in meters. North is up. The before and after images are available separately as Figure A (from CTX observation J03_046129_1800) and Figure B (from CTX observation J08_047975_1779).
CTX was built by and is operated by Malin Space Science Systems, San Diego. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of Caltech in Pasadena, California, manages the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Project for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington.

Stigle su i nove fotografije u boji, koje snimio NASA-in MROrbiter, kamerom HIRISE.
Kroz 2 tjedna se očekuju i dodatne, pa čak i u 3D.
Po mom skromnom mišljenju razlog za neuspješno spuštanje leži u preranom odvajanju landera Shiaparelli. 
Pitanje je kako je u tom slučaju padobran uopće funkcionirao.
